FS: REDUCED x2: Iconic Vintage Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster 1000

Great watch at a great price just looking for a new home -- don't miss it!

Up for sale is this cool vintage Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster 1000 in beautiful unrestored condition. This great vintage diver dates from the late 1960s or early 70s, I believe, and is widely considered a design classic. This Depthmaster 1000 is a rugged water resistant watch with heavy screw-back steel cushion case in the style of the Rolex Oyster cases provided to Panerai during WWII with the addition of an elapsed time bezel. The highly legible and wonderfully patinated semi-Arabics dial and screwed spring bars further reinforce that connection and this iconic Nivada Grenchen also features a high quality shock resistant ETA movement with 21 jewels. These watches are terrific value for money and this one is extra special with its seemingly unpolished case and unmolested dial. This Depthmaster 1000 is in overall Excellent+ vintage condition.

The asking price for this great vintage Nivada Grenchen diver is now further REDUCED to $2250 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire preferred but Paypal is fine on this transaction with +2% to the buyer. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: Wonderfully proportioned "Baby Panerai" case is 38mm wide (not including crown) x 48mm long and a chunky 13mm to the top of the crystal. With thick, straight lugs and a very Oyster-like cushion design the case appears unpolished with its original satin finish and sharp chamfers and is in Excellent+ original vintage condition with only minor scuffs and some small nicks. Screw in polygon water-resistant caseback has some superficial scratches/tool marks and smoothing of the external nomenclature but the Nivada logo is still very sharp--cosmetically Very Good+ condition. Inner case & back are corrosion free and the correct 7-digit serial number is present. The original thick, Panerai-like screwed springbars are present and in Excellent condition.

BEZEL: Original thick bi-directional friction-style knurled steel bezel with luminous triangle at "12" and enamel-filled hash marks and quarter-Arabics is easily Excellent+. It rotates firmly and not to freely in both directions as designed and all enamel fill is present, as is the Tritium in the triangle, which matches the dial nicely.

DIAL & HANDS: Excellent+ condition original matte black dial with sharp white text and bold red 1000, very thick original Tritium luminous even Arabics and bar markers with terrific biscuity patina and silver framed date window. The dial shows only one small spot near the "7" bar but is nonetheless stunning and the most preferred layout for these Depthmasters. Tritium filled hands show minimal cracking hands are Excellent and original, as is the highly legible red sweep seconds hand with just a small loss of paint to the shaft. Overall, a very cool retro diver dial that really pops on the wrist.

CROWN: Original large and correct signed push in crown winds and pulls out to the non-hack time setting positions as it should. It sits tight to the case and is in Excellent+ cosmetic condition with a crisp Nivada logo.

CRYSTAL: Original domed acrylic crystal shows some crazing and light scratches but is clear and chip free--Very Good condition with a lot of vintage plexi feel.

MOVEMENT: Nivada modified ETA cal. 2472 with Incabloc shock protection and 21 jewels. It is non-hacking and a semi-quickset movement, meaning one can rapidly advance the date by moving the hands from approximately 9PM to 12PM repeatedly. While I do not know the service history of this watch, the movement is keeping good time with strong power reserve and correct date change. I guarantee this to be the case upon shipment.

BAND: This great Depthmaster 1000 comes on your choice of the leather NATO strap pictured or I can attach a conventional brown leather strap, both Near Mint. This watch takes 18mm straps and these are secured by thick screwed spring bars, as mentioned above.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This classic Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster 1000 is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
