FS: 1969 ROAMER Stingray Tri-Compax Chrono – Superb!

1969 Roamer Stingray Chrono
EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION
Rare Valjoux 72 Tri-Compax Chronograph (726 Variation)
Recent complete overhaul/servicing (photos)
Original Roamer-signed NSA folded steel bracelet

For sale from my personal collection is this outstanding 45 year-old Roamer Stingray Chrono, one of the finest original examples still in existence.

The Stingray was launched in 1969 by Roamer, teaming with Björn Waldegård, the Swedish rally car champion. Waldegård won the 1969 and 1970 Auto Rally of Monte Carlo with his Porsche 911S. Roamer produced advertising for the Stingray Chrono incorporating Waldegård and his Rally-winning Porsche (see photo).

The Roamer Stingray Chrono is a tri-compax chronograph, powered by the famous Valjoux 72 in its 726 configuration. This movement was completely overhauled (see photos) and serviced in 2012 by a Dutch master watchmaker, who was also the previous owner. The movement operates perfectly and is buttery-smooth, including all timekeeping, chrono and crown functions. The Stingray utilizes a modular case with a separate body and bezel for water tightness (i.e., no removable back). See watchmaker’s waterproof test results below.

The Stingray case is approximately 37mm x 43mm, excluding the signed Roamer crown. The bezel is brushed stainless steel with polished sides, in excellent condition. The back features an embossed stingray and Roamer logo. The “waterproof” engraving on the back testifies to the watch’s 1960’s heritage, as use of that term was regulated away in 1969. The rare and original NSA folded steel bracelet is in superb condition with the Roamer logo on the buckle and enough links to fit a 7.5+” wrist.

The original dial and hands are in very good condition, showing light uniform patina throughout. The Plexiglas crystal is in excellent condition.

Offered at $2,195.00 insured and shipped worldwide. NO TRADES. I can accept PayPal for U.S. deliveries and bank transfers for international deliveries.
