FS: Vintage Rolex ref. 5500 SS Air-King w/ Rare WINN-DIXIE Dial

Up for sale is this mega-cool Rolex ref. 5500 Oyster Perpetual Air-King with very rare "Winn-Dixie 10 Yrs Safe Driver" double name dial. This presentation watch from the great American supermarket chain dates to the early 1980s and the handsome Winn-Dixie logoed silver sunburst dial is in Near Mint condition. This highly-collectible Air-King is in Excellent vintage condition overall and comes on what is probably its original, long 78350 Heavy Oyster bracelet with correct 557 ends. This is a great addition to any double name Rolex collection and about as cool as an Air-King gets.

The asking price for this scarce Winn-Dixie Air-King with very rare dial is $2550 USD OBRO, which includes fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Payment by Bank Wire preferred but I will also accept Paypal for this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: The classic 34mm stainless steel Oyster case shows very little polish and the lugs are sharp and fat, with only minor scratches from past use. The tops of the lugs have either been lightly buffed or have mostly lost their satin finish from wear. Overall, the case is in solidly Excellent condition. The correct model # 5500 & 8.1mil SN (circa 1983-4) are also perfectly legible between their respective lugs. The outer caseback has some superficial scratches and some residual marks to the polished part, Very Good to Excellent cosmetic condition overall. Best of all, though, unlike most of these presentation watches there is no personalized engraving. The inner caseback is corrosion-free and bears the reference 1002, which is quite common for this era of Air-King.

DIAL & HANDS: Obviously, the dial is the star on this watch and this one is Near Mint with stunning silver sunburst finish and applied white gold bar markers with all original Tritium luminous dots intact. The "Winn-Dixie 10 Yrs Safe Driver" logo is very clean, colorful and sharp. Original Tritium-filled characteristic pointed hour & minute hands are Near Mint, as is the baton sweep seconds, with no corrosion and only some minor signs of aging. All in all, a fantastic and rare double name Air-King dial in top condition!

CROWN: The signed steel Rolex Twinlock crown shows some minor wear but screws down properly and pulls out to the winding and hacking time-setting positions as it should.

CRYSTAL: The acrylic crystal chip free and has only the most minor marks, easily Near Mint.

BEZEL: This smooth steel bezel is easily in Excellent condition with only a few minor nicks.

MOVEMENT: This Air-King features Rolex's legendary workhorse cal. 1520 26-jewel automatic non-Chronometer movement with hacking function. While the service history is unknown and the watch has not been timed professionally, it is running strong, keeping good time (about -10 secs/day) and with a strong power reserve. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping.

BRACELET: This great Air-King comes on what I assume to be its original Rolex ref. 78350 Heavy Oyster bracelet with correct 19mm 557 end links. The date code is "I8", which matches the ca. 1983-4 serial according to our friends over at Oysterworld.de. The bracelet has 13 total links and should fit up to about a 7.5" wrist at maximum adjustment. This bracelet has negligible stretch with only superficial swirls and scuffs, and only a bit of wear to one of the clasp ends where it has been bent slightly. Easily Excellent and quite tight condition overall.

As a matter of policy I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this or any other watch.

This super cool Rolex Winn-Dixie Air-King is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get back the watch in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
