FS: Rare Vintage JENNY Single Crown COMPRESSOR

While virtually all collectors know that vintage dive watches have become extremely popular over the past several years, single crown compressor-cased versions remain somewhat under the radar. They were produced by many different manufacturers, and in different styles, but the vast majority shared the high-quality snap-back compressor cases, and cross-hatched crowns also found on twin-crown models.

What makes the one that I have for sale so special is that it was made by Jenny, the well-known maker of the iconic Caribbean line of (serious) dive watches, while most single crown compressors were manufactured by companies that only dabbled in "sport" watches". It is also a particularly rare and early model, and is all original to my knowledge.

The steel case measures 36mm x 44mm, and features beefy lugs that are somewhat reminiscent of the early Omega Seamasters. It shows light signs of wear, but I would consider it conservatively to be in very good condition. The inner case back is signed with the iconic E. Piquerez (case maker) scuba diver logo and, "Swiss Made, Compressor, Brevet + 313813, 5-62," with the latter indicating a production date of May, 1962. The case back shows a cool, engraved scuba diver figure, along with, "Swiss Made, All Steel, 1196, Guaranteed 12 ATU Waterproof, Automatic, Antimagnetic."

The watch is powered by a 25 jewel ETA cal. 2454 automatic movement with a semi-quickset date. It is in excellent condition, and is functioning properly, but I have neither timed it, nor do I know the last date of service. Therefore, I would recommend a service if the watch is intended to be used regularly.

The original silver satin dial has an uncommon and attractive guilloche outer chapter ring with faceted steel markers. The dial, dauphine hands, markers and crystal with cyclops date magnifier are all in excellent condition.

This is a very difficult watch to price, as the model almost never appears on the market. I'm asking $800 or NRO, and will include shipping and Paypal fees at the asking price. I don't need to sell, and am simply thinning my collection in order to balance the books a bit.

I am very well known on many forums (e.g. Timezone, The Purists, Omegaforums, WUS, etc.), and have plenty of references.

I would be happy to answer any questions, so feel free to ask.

Finally, please note that the watch is with me in Lisbon, Portugal, where I am currently based. This means that EU-based collectors will pay no additional customs duties. I will accept either Paypal or bank transfers.

Regards,

Tony C.
