Hi All,
I recently used this forum to sell a quite rare LeCoultre 'Shark' Chronograph.
I presented the watch as a 'Please let me have your offers'.
My reasoning was based on the lack of similar watches recently available for sale.
Whilst one or two had appeared they were in relatively poor condition compared to the one I was selling. One that was in very good condition, with a world time bezel, sold at auction a few weeks ago for an extremely high price, which I felt was not representative.
We are all aware of the rocketing prices of some brands and references based on market forces (V72 movements etc.)
I thought it best for the watch to find a 'correct' level based on it's desirability to seriously interested buyers.
Other than one dissenting voice, everyone who contacted me seemed happy to make an offer and received a courteous response (even the ridiculously low offers and requests for several months of credit etc.)
Eventually, the 'offer pool' narrowed down to a couple of truly interested parties and a deal was concluded.
The buyer and I were happy that the watch was sold at what we believed to be a reasonable market value which I am certain could not have been ascertained in any other way.
Altogether, it was not a disappointing experience.
The bottom line is that if you are not interested - no one is forcing you to make an offer !
I suspect the only losers in a 'make an offer' format are browsers hoping for a 'bargain' low net price posting.
Just my opinion and apologies to anyone who feels the opposite.
I'm sure opinion is divided - there's mine - and everyone else's :-))
