FS: RARE 1950s Breitling Sputnik Clock

Here is a rare bird! I am selling my ref. 2000 vintage Breitling Sputnik desk clock. This is the (more rare) black dial version, and dates to the late 1950s.

It is conservatively in good to very good condition throughout, and measures approximately 12x8cm. The plated metal (brass?) looks very nice on balance, but I will parse it out a bit further. The heavy, half-globe base is excellent. The two-piece clock/satellite part must have been plated slightly differently, as the back section (with the four iconic Sputnik spikes) is very good, while the clock housing shows more plate loss and is good. The original protective felt coating beneath the base is in excellent condition.

The dial and hands are both in excellent condition. Typical of glossy black dials, my modest photographic skills are not enough to capture this one well. I guarantee that it will look good in person, though.

The movement is in good condition, and running well. I do not know the last date of service, however, and would certainly recommend one for regular use.

The only other point that I would like to make about condition is that while the back of the clock housing fits snugly into the front, it does not actually screw to a tight closure as a watch case back would. What this means in practical terms is that it will remain secure and present perfectly while sitting unmolested on a desk or shelf, but should always be handled with care, and when transporting, it would be advisable to secure the two parts with some tape to insure that they remain together.

This is a very cool and attractive piece of history, and would obviously enhance any serious Breitling or vintage watch/clock ephemera collection.

I ask $1400 (or equivalent Euros), and will ship EMS at that price. I will consider serious offers, but bear in mind that good examples of these have traded between $1500-3000 on eBay in recent years. Bank transfer is preferred, though I will also consider Paypal. I live in Lisbon, Portugal, and that is where the clock will be shipped from.

I am well known on vintage watch forums around the world as "Tony C.". Feel free to ask any questions!
