Re: Some data about the L5100 Heuers

My answer to Jeff on Vetroplastica:

Jeff, I bought this watch together with a blue Silverstone Cal12 from the same dealer. The first owner bought it in the same shop in the years.
After his death, his family sold the watches.
So, the watches arrives from the same shop and wasn't opened through the years. The blue Silversone Cal 12 was dressed very few times.

You know how mutch costs to sign in that way all the parts... and the money I payed don't jusitfy all this "job".

I think that in starting "production" Heuer got all signed and, in 2 years, they stopped to sign all parts. You know that, in the years, many Heuers expert (Heuer employed too) declare as fake all the Black Beauty Monacos. Oly Jack Heuer, few times ago, declare it good open hunting...

Now, let's talk about the ebay's Silverstone document of Chronomaddox.
The bid's date is 2005: 4 years ago... In these 4 years we've seen only 2 Silverstone signed.
So, for the money that I've payed for mine, it's possible that someone realize a press to sign all this parts to give 2 watch?
It is not economically do this job in a poor watch... only to sell 2 watches in 5 years.
Maybe "signed" prepared only for italian market, maybe...

The arrives of a lot of assembled Silverstones with black original dial is in this summer: before I've seen a lot of reprinted dials only (a lot of blue "fishbone" cleary not Heuer).

In my opinion I, and a lot of members of Vetroplastica, after seeing this watch, prefear an "all signed".

We know a delaer with about 10 Silverstone cleary assembled, with wax on the case. Crown not signed, caseback not signed, rotor not signed and full set hands not right totally "new" (mine's got yellow patina).
Knowing history, none of us take these watches.

: Hi Jeff, I have followed the link and indeed it is a very
: interesting post.
: Though I cannot claim to be an expert such as Pascal surely is, I
: have come to learn my share on Lemania 5100-powered Heuers, and
: like for Pascal they are the bulk of my tiny collection.
: First I have to admit that among my L5100 Heuers I have no
: Silverstone, so I am no authority on this and cannot provide
: evidence of photos, serial numbers or whatever else. Others
: forum members have them however so they probably can help?

: Based on the many, many pictures I have seen during years, I'd say
: that only the 510.50X's (the supposed winners in the 2010
: value-gain race of DC ;-)!) routinely carried signed crowns, and
: on others they were probably substitutions.

: 510.50x: Signed crown, reference engraved on the back (among
: other things), no SN visible anywhere on the outer case, rotor
: signed 'Lemania'. A few have unsigned crowns but they should be
: aftermarket IMHO.

: Carreras (510.511, 510.523): Unsigned crown, reference
: engraved on the back (faintly, and nothing else), no SN visible
: anywhere on the outer case, rotor signed 'Lemania'.
: A couple 510.523's with signed crowns, thicker than the usual
: unsigned one.

: Cortina and "non-Cortina" (510.513): Unsigned
: crown, reference engraved on the back (faintly, and nothing
: else), no SN visible anywhere on the outer case, rotor signed
: 'Lemania'.

: Silverstone and "non-Silverstone" (510.403):
: Unsigned crown, reference engraved on the back (faintly, and
: nothing else), no SN visible anywhere on the outer case, rotor
: signed 'Lemania'.

: AMI (510.543) : Unsigned crown, reference engraved on the
: back along with military markings, no SN visible anywhere on the
: outer case, rotor signed 'Lemania'

: AudiSport: Unsigned crown, but I have never seen the inside
: and also the case back just once, it's engraved with the usual
: "All stainless steel" etc. like the 510.50X but lacks
: (as some of the 510.50X, again) the Heuer logo and seems to be
: lacking the ref. as well.

: So based on evidence I have seen in the metal or in pictures here
: and on other fora:

: - Always unsigned crowns but the 510.50X and very few 510.523's
: (aftermarket IMO)
: - Always Lemania-signed rotors
: - Reference on the case back but also some w/o reference at all
: (AudiSport the most notable)

: Hope this may help somehow.
: Cheers.
: Fabrizio
