Several other brands (Fortis as you pointed out, Tutima, Sinn...) routinely used black day and date wheel on their Lemania 5100 models. And like you, I like the effect on a black dial. For example, I've seen an example of the ultra-rare ref. 376.0822 Speedmaster with those wheels, and the end result was stunning!

But I still find surprising to find this detail on a supposedly original Heuer. Just my two cents...
