Seeking Recommendations: $5,000 to Spend / Classic Watch

A family member will be buying a watch for another family member, and is seeking my recommendation of the right watch. Let me describe the criteria, and then ask readers for their recommendations.

  • The watch will be a “Thank You” gift for helping with some personal business matters.
  • Recipient is gentleman in his late 50s -- an accountant, somewhat conservative in his daily attire. He is not a "watch guy" or collector.
  • Assume that the watch will be for dress / special occasions, but could also be for occasional daily wear.
  • Watch should be a “classic”, that can be a family heirloom, rather than something that is this year’s style or trend.
  • Assume a three-hand watch, rather than chronograph or sports watch, but maybe a classic / elegant chronograph could work.
  • Watch should be new, rather than vintage or pre-owned.
  • Budget for the purchase is $4,000 to $6,000.
So what would you recommend to match these criteria? Isn’t it fun spending other people’s money, rather than our own!!

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!!

Jeff
