Monaco without serial: what do you suggest?

Hi all?
I need your kind help to clarify this: I have found a nice Monaco but the case hasn't any serial number, only the usual 1133 between the lugs.
Unfortunately I don't have any image to post, anyway I'm asking you all; have you ever heard about Monacos without any serial number?
what could be?
A stock case replaced during its life?
Serials deleted for a particular reason?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks.
All my best.
Gianluca
