News: Owner of Graves Supercomplication Has Died

Here's the report on Hodinkee, that Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Thani, the owner of the Graves Supercomplication [we think], has died, at age 48, the day before the watch was to be sold.

As pointed out in this excellent posting on Fortune, the watch is being offered as "guaranteed property", meaning that there is some sort of reserve or other arrangement between Sotheby's and the owner. Recall that the Sheik had turned the watch in to Sotheby's in 2012, in partial settlement of his $80 million debt to the auction house.

Yes, folks, all this is "complicated" . . . Rest in Peace to one of the world's great collectors.
