So Far, We Have Not Seen This . . .

We see fake Heuers every day. I can't think of any scenario in which the faker having a list of the serial numbers of every genuine Heuer ever produced would have given him any commercial advantage.

There might be 10 vintage race cars that look pretty much alike (or could be made to look alike), and I see that the chassis plate from the one that has a strongest racing history would have some value (and it can easily be transferred to one of the other nine cars), but I am just not seeing this in the world of vintage Heuers. Even if someone has the case of the rare Chronomatic or Black PVD Monaco, it will be very difficult to build up a watch in that case.

: This has crossed my mind too and I have another take on it.
: My experience is with classic cars. The fear is that with declaring
: the serial (chassis) number, someone may claim, rightly or
: wrongly, that they have the same watch (car). This leads to
: controversy as others are inclined to take sides and argue in
: favour of one case or the other. The 'papers' of either may, or
: may not, be in the correct hands.
: Inmy view, watches and cars are a valid comparison. You can build
: either around a (fake) case or chassis plate and nothing else is
: original.
