Hi Stewart, very nice Andretti there, congratulations.
As much as I would be torn myself in debating the same issue, I am kind of afraid that the market forces have somehow decided it for good.
Any restoration, however sympathetic, on truly vintage pieces seems to have become a no-no: it's like they've become works of art to many, where originality trumps anything else.
I personally do not agree completely, especially for "tool watches", and still have had some of my go-to watches restored but sadly (or luckily, your choice) I never have had to wonder on any of the real heavyweights such as the early Autavias or the transitional Monacos etc. - none of which I have owned - so my choice has been a lot easier for 80's pieces.
