While I have pretty much gotten out of the habit of posting photos of fakes of the vintage Heuer chronographs, friends who watch some other vintage brands / models suggest that the appearance of this fake Autavia represents a new threat to the market.
While the listing states that the original dial has been refinished, to my eye, no element of the watch appears to be original -- case; hands; bezel; etc. Perhaps some elements have been produced "from scratch", suggesting that we may see more of them.
Here is the eBay listing -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/253109520840 Yes, bidding has reached $2,600, with over 6 days remaining.
Checking seller's feedback, we see this blatant fake -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/263053941447.
And this one is a little more subtle -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/263029966277
As the prices of vintage Heuers have increased, led by the 1960s Autavias, we expected to see more of the fakes. It reaches a different level if the bad guys are making cases, dials and hands. Be careful out there . . . it can be dangerous.
