Rare, Interesting Watch, but Movement has been Replaced
In Response To: Lot 7 is very interesting ()

As always, Paolo is correct about this watch . . . super rare execution . . . super early Ref 1163 MH.

Interesting that the description in the Christie's catalog goes on and on about this watch, but someone forgot to mention that the movement has been replaced.
This early Reference 1163 should have a Cal 11 movement . . . but it has a Cal 12.

Oddly enough, this same watch was included in the June 21 NYC Christie's auction, and the description included the following, from the owner of the watch -- "In 1972, the watch stopped working and my father took it into Levinson’s Jewelers in Chicago, Illinois where they replaced the Caliber 11 movement with the improved and upgraded Caliber 12." The watch failed to sell in that auction; perhaps someone decided that it might do better, without this little bit of information.

Below is a photo from the original owner of the watch, who embarked on his attempt to sell the watch in 2015. I would have been all over this watch, back in 2015, but we had different ideas about the value, especially in view of the Cal 12 movement.

: One on the very first 1163 post chronomatic, serial 141241,
: has the extremely rare dial with fat red marks and white central
: chrono hand.
: Pity the massive post production of the picture makes impossible to
: see case case condition.

: But does not look that bad!
