Are the New Monaco's worth there hefty price?

Recently, I viewed a thread concerning the quality of the current Monaco's being less than desirable when compared to the vintage models and even the limited re-editions produced a few years back. Is this true?

I'm not knowledgable about watches in the least though I must admit I'm getting more interested as time goes by.
