In Response To: Heuer helps get to the moon ()

Jim:

You wrote "Best part was that they showed a vintage, late 60's stopwatch which was used to count down the remaining fuel as the Apollo 11 Lunar module overshot the landing zone."

Only a true "Heuer guy" would have considered this the "BEST PART" of the program. And when Armstrong took those first steps on the moon, FIRST he should have thanked the folks at Heuer-Leonidas who made it all possible. THEN he could have talked about the "step" and the "leap".

Thanks again,

Jeff

: I just watched the History Channel special
: "Failure Was Not An Option" a
: derivitive from the book of the same title
: all about the Apollo mission control years.

: Well, there were several archival footage
: videos of guys in the control room who were
: wearing Heuer Carrera watches.

: Best part was that they showed a vintage, late
: 60's stopwatch which was used to count down
: the remaining fuel as the Apollo 11 Lunar
: module overshot the landing zone. The
: mission controller had 15 seconds of fuel
: left before the landing!

: Omega may be the first wrist watch to land on
: the moon, but a Heuer got it there!!
