My first is a basic Speedy Pro.

DLim,

I went through the same dilemma you're going through now. In fact, I've been going through it for several years. I decided on a new Speedy Pro steel back, non-anniversary, non-collector's series, non-nothin' but a Speedy. Here's my thinking.

1) It's the original Speedmaster. The others are great, but the original is a classic that, I think, rates with any watch of the modern era you care to name.

2) The steel back version is the one that passed the Nasa Flight tests. Most agree that the saphire back version couldn't stand up to the stresses.

3) The basic Speedy face is such a classic I don't want one with a NASA patch or any other frills.

4) It's my first Speedy, but certainly not my last.

Jeff
