I also am not a big fan of ETA based watches in general :), I just pop in here from time to time because I like a few of Omega's newer styles and their vintage pieces. I really like the new chrono movement they have out, and also their Co-Axial, but I really don't think I would spend my money on a "generic" ETA based watch unless it was under a grand which rules out almost all of Omegas current models from an auth dealer...but that is just me and my tastes.
However I would rather have an ETA auto than an ETA quartz simply because I do not like quartz watches, sure they are accurate, cheap to service and reliable...but if I wanted that I would just use my cell phone or PDA for time....I like the engineering and the "low tech" aspect of mechanicals....it takes me away from my high tech world.
So in answer to your question, yes I am aware that many many brands use ETA based movements, both quartz and auto....I just don't buy them.
