Agreed, we have no data to even discuss...
My 2 cents... Posted By: John Rochowicz Date: 3/30/06 16:52 GMT In Response To: OK. My view (SteveW62)
I happen to agree with Steve that the 3612 movement has just been released so it is entirely too early to judge its reliabilty. I agree. We only know of one owner (who's posted pictures on TZOF) and one claimed owner who hasn't been able to post pictures and had multiple threads he had posted this morning pulled for some reason... We'd have to ask Damon or Mike Sandler...
I am, however, reminded of the adage than a building is only as strong as it's foundation. Let's hope the 3612 is able to overcome the baggage of it's heritage.
Once those lucky enough to be able to afford 3612-based watches start posting feedback on them, then we'll have some credible numbers to work with. Right now, it is mere speculation at best. Agreed, we have no data at this point to even talk about.
As for the 33xx series, I really have to wonder if Omega did indeed address the problem at a higher level than we may be aware. After all, they are now going to be putting the 3313 movement in the Planet Ocean chronographs. The problems certainly do not appear to have detered them any. That's for sure.
I'm sure Omega's marketing department knows what a success the original Planet Ocean has been, so the last thing they want to see is a new chrono version gain a reputation as being unreliable. They have been introducing new models equipped with the c.33xx at a brisk pace. In addition to the Commemorative, there at the AT chrono's and more than I can remember. I don't really see this as anything new.
I can only surmise that Omega has done everything possible to correct the 3313 problems BEFORE sticking them in a new model that should prove to be quite popular. I'd like to think so, but the problems keep on occuring! While we can surmize, I'm not sure that doing so get's us anywhere.
That's not to say that there isn't an inherent design flaw in the 33xx series that Omega hasn't caught and fully corrected. That is a possible scenario. However, I have to give Omega the benefit of the doubt and believe that they have done everything possible to fix these problems. I'm not able to give them the benefit of my wallet or credit card for one yet. Nor am I able to give a current owner the benefit of my hard cash for a second hand one either.
I just really figured I'd own one of these newer chronographs by now. I had initially planned on holding off for 1-2 years before opening my wallet. 2001 + 1-2 years = 2003... Three years later I feel no closer to feel comfortable in taking the risk.
Like I said, just my 2 cents... I just wish it wasn't the way it's been.
