After having one disaterous experience on eBay, I stick to my motto, 'Don't bid, buy authorised'!
It can go well 10 times, but if it goes wrong just one single time, you end up wasting all the money you saved on the 10 previous purchases. Now, if I purchase anything at all from eBay, (which happens more and more seldom) my maximal bid is US$100. Just my 2 cents.
Common man
