Hong Kong cheaper than UK?

Hi all,

I've been lurking for a little while here but this is my first posting and therefore my first chance to thank everyone for all the really useful information I've picked up - as well as the fantastic photos! Thank you!

After years of suppressed desire I finally decided a month or so ago that I would really like to treat myself to a good watch. Since then I have spent hours trawling the web and gazing into jeweller shop windows. I had finally pretty well decided on an Aqua Terra (42mm, white with either blue or gold markers) and dared to venture into a local AD (Southampton UK) on Saturday to try one for size. I loved it - until I saw and tried a Planet Ocean which I had never really liked in photos but which is astonishingly impressive in the flesh - as I'm sure many of you will know!

Unfortunately the PO is a little more than I had budgeted for (to be more precise, I had done a lot of preparatory work in getting my dear wife to "authorise" the AT and she didn't seem too impressed when I preferred the PO) so I am keen to minimise costs where possible.

As it happens, we have a trip to Hong Kong lined up for later in the year and so the possibility of buying from an AD there is something I could consider. From the limited information I have been able to find, it looks like the RRPs are only a little cheaper in HK (maybe 10%) but what I don't know is what sort of discounts I can expect to find, both in HK and the UK?

Any advise on this subject would be gratefully received. For example, am I absolutely safe if I buy from an AD in HK? I assume that the warranty will be valid in the UK but am I likely to get a frosty response from UK dealers if I need to get work done?

If anyone needs to contact me by emai, please convert the "dot"s in my email address to real dots. Sorry - but I get enough spam as it is without posting my address in plain view. Sorry also for rambling on so much. Many thanks.
