In Response To: scratches ()

Hi aldrin.

It's usually easier to prevent scratches than it is to remove them.

Here's an example of how to remove scratches on a bracelet. ( admittedly a different watch, but I'm sure you get the idea )

Mason Allerby's scratch removing tutorial

A watch usually has a variety of different finishes on it.

The answer, to you question about having scratches removed during a service, depends on WHERE you send the watch.

If you sent it to Omega in Switzerland, they would certainly "tidy the watch up". I've never heard of a "new" watch that came back from Switzerland, without an optical improvement. ( polish )

I can't comment about any other service centres though. I have no idea where you live, but assume it is in the USA ( most people who DON'T live in the USA, mention it in their posts ). From what I've read, the US service centres have at best an average rating from their customers.

I'm trying to be a bit careful here. If a customer is unhappy, he/she will usually shout & complain about it. If he/she is happy, the just carry on with life & forget the work..... you usually only hear about the problems.

Would a local watchmaker do this ? - Dunno.

Finally, one last question. Why do you want to have your 1.5 year old watch serviced ?

It shouldn't need a service so soon.

I hope this helps

Steve
