Re: My Speedmaster Pro Experience
In Response To: My Speedmaster Pro Experience ()

: Hi Ralph,

: I own the "sapphire sandwich" version
: of the Speedy Pro.

: The Speedmaster moon watches have the manual
: wind Lemania movements (861 family). While
: different than the 321 movement worn on the
: moon, the 861 movements are robust movements
: that have been flight qualified by NASA.
: This is probably why the manual wind
: Speedmaster moon watches are more expensive
: than the automatic Speedmasters.

: I chose the sapphire crystal version of the
: Speedy because hesalite crystals scratch
: more easily. (Scratches can be buffed out of
: hesalite crystals, but I didn't want to deal
: with it.) Speedmasters with the sapphire
: crystal are less authentic and aren't flight
: qualified, but that was a compromise I was
: willing to make.

: Sometimes I miss having a date on my watch, but
: it's worth giving up the date for the
: balanced dial and classic design. Winding my
: Speedy in the morning takes less than 30
: seconds and isn't a bother at all. My Speedy
: loses about a second per day, which is
: fantastic considering it's not even COSC
: certified.

: It's a pleasure wearing my Speedy--there isn't
: another Omega that I'd rather wear.

: Kelly

Thanks for your comment! Is your crystal speedy a "professional"? Or is the professional only the one with the "plastic"?

Could it indeed be that commercial reasons raise the price of the manual version? I would think that an auto is more complicated?
