If the watch has not been serviced for several years and if your father is going to wear it, it should be serviced now. That will be an opportunity for the watchmaker to record the numbers inside the watch for you.

I agree with John about the so-called waterproofing of old Seamasters. I got my first one in 1954, but it has never been near water!
