Thanks Chuck, I did get ..... Posted By: Raringtogo Date: 10/24/06 07:29 GMT In Response To: Yes, indeed you do... Or at least a heavy sigh... (Chicagoland Chuck Maddox) ....this BA for an absolute steal due to the problems it was exhibiting. Ok, I was pretty sure that's where you were going with your queries. Other than the chrono problems it is in great condition and seems to have been worn very little. Which is somewhat telling in my opinion. But that's another topic. I have read Shaun T's posts and yep .. thems the problems. Ok, you know where they are and how to access them then. I did have a very nice conversation with Omega service in Bienne today and they actually acknowledged that there have been problems with this movement from the earlier years of production and I should send it to them for inspection. Well that is good of them. I mean it's true, but there have been times when Omega has, well, downplayed the situation a great deal when compared to reality. To be honest, even if I pay for a service / restoration where they replace internal parts if required, at CHF420 I am still getting a cracking deal. Well, here's the thing... In the spirit of full disclosure, I'm not particularly enamoured with the F. Piguet movements. Yes, they seem to have some very interesting technological features, they seem to be of a high level of finish, etc. I grant that. However, they have not performed like preceeding movements Omega has used in the past (the Lemania's, the Valjoux and even the ETA-DD's), even in pedestrian (White Collar/Office) usage much less more demanding usage that many Omega "Sporting Chronograph" owners encounter on any given day. I suppose I was just seeing if there was any leverage I could use to reduce my outlay any. Visit the various Omega Forums on line and do some digging. A modest investment of your time may prove worthwhile. I am happy to spend the money to bring the watch back to working condition, but, the folding stuff don't come free and I don't want to give it away if I don't need to. It shouldn't hurt to ask or to try. I wouldn't push too hard and I'd be polite and professional in your demeanor when you communicate with them regardless of the outcome. You never know when you'll need them in the future. Thanks for your insights and advice. Best of fortune, let us know how it works out for you. |
