The 2500 is based on the ETA 2892-a2, heavily modified with co axial escapement and free sprung balance. Not sure why Omega would tout this as their first new movement since 81. The 2500 is a great movement. My PO keeps time at <1 second per day.
With that being said, Omega has just introduced cal. 8500, its latest and greatest "in house" movement.
