: Water resistance testing merely applies the static pressure
: experienced at a depth of water. But the dynamic pressure
: proportional to the square of velocity can be considerable even
: when swimming on the surface. The dynamic pressure is what you
: feel on the palms of your hands as you swim. So a watch must be
: tested to a depth much greater than one would dive to. But I
: would think that a watch tested to 50m should be quite safe for
: the shower or for surface swimming.
Thanks for all the information. The watchmaker I went to is not a Omega AD but he seems like an very experienced guy. He told me the watch is good for swimming, snorkeling... he did not mention what depth he tested the watch to. I guess I can take my watch to a Omega authoriaed dealer and have the watchmaker there to test it to their standard. By the way, the watchmaker mentioned that it is not a good idea to wear watch while doing dishes or taking shower because the soap would slowly damage the gasket.
