Swimming with a Speedy?

Went to get the batteries replaced in my Tag the other day and made the mistake of trying on a Seamaster and a SuperOcean, and now am definitely in the market for a mechanical watch.

After much reading on the internet I'm leaning towards an Omega. I'm probably not going to have a collection of watches (though dang that Stowa Airman Original is pretty) so whatever I get needs to be pretty general purpose. Living in San Franciso, swimming doesn't come up that often (it's d*mn cold in the water here) but I do travel occasionally to somewhere warmer and am wondering how a Speedy would fare at day at the beach or out sailing?

I've read the articles on this site and elsewhere about what water resistance means, but curious if anyone has actual experience either way (e.g. they swim daily with their speedy with no issues, or alternately their speedy did a Wickled Witch of the west and melted down and the mere hint of moisture).

Cheers
