That section was written by the late founder of this website. Opinions on COSC certificates will always vary, but I think they are nice to have since they don't cost anything and prove your watch was purchased from an AD.

That section of the website hasn't been updated since March 2004, but you're absolutely right about it being much easier to do via e-mail.
