The water resistance rating is in any water you would ever be immersed...salt...fresh...pool.

In fact, the pressure at...let's say...100ft below the ocean is greater than the pressure 100ft below a fresh water lake because seawater is slightly denser (about 1024kg/cu.meter) than freshwater (1000kg/cu.meter)...but that is splitting hairs.

As for the seals, it is a good idea to thoroughly rinse the watch with fresh water after a dip in the pool or ocean. Be sure the crown is closed for both swim and rinse. If you're going to get the watch wet you should have it pressure tested by a watchmaker about once per year anyway.
