Re: 2254.50.00 - A couple of questions please

: Hi,

: Ive been digging around this site for a couple
: of months now and wondered if anybody would
: mind answering a couple of questions for me
: regarding the Black Seamaster 300m
: (2254.50.00)

: I intend buying this watch in the next couple
: of weeks ie until I am next in London (The
: Omega Boutique on Oxford St offers a
: reasonable discount for cash/ outright
: purchases and includes the 1st (3 /5year)
: service for free)

: I have read a few posts on this site that
: suggest that Omega is set to change the Blue
: "bond" 300m to a coaxial movement
: in the very near future. I have not, as yet
: read anything that suggests they intend
: doing the same with the 2254.50.00.
: Does anybody know whether or not there are
: plans in the pipeline to do the same with
: the 2254.50.00? I am torn between preferring
: the size and design of this model and being
: hesitant to purchase a watch that will soon
: be out of production.

Yes, the new co-axial Bond model will be in stores this fall to coincide with the release of the new Bond film, Casino Royale.

There have been rumors that next spring at Basel we will see Omega release a new co-axial version of the 2254.50. However, we don't have any concrete facts to back that up. Even my AD's sales rep can't say whether this is a certainty.

My own feelings about making the 2254.50 co-axial are somewhat mixed. I like that model a lot, but I'm not sure Omega needs another black dialed diver's watch in the price range of the Planet Ocean. After all, the 2254.50 is $1250 less than a Planet Ocean, so by making it co-axial it will put it in the same $3000+ price range. One of the benefits of the 2254.50 is that it offers a lot of "bang for the buck". Adding $1000 to the price tag if it goes co-axial might make people think, "For a couple hundred more I'll just get the Planet Ocean." I'm just not sure how well an upgraded, much more expensive 2254.50 would sell.
