Feedback Requested for Online Petition to Omega

Hi Guys,
Andrew from another website directed me to a free petition-hosting site that will allow me to post a petition asking Omega to reinstate my AD's status. Signatures will be obtained electronically and names will be kept hidden from view on the website.

I have put together a petition that I'd like to ask for comments and feedback on. I will send it to my AD as well for his review. I am planning to post this no later than Monday morning, so I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

Keep in mind that this is not supposed to be a book, just a description of what happened, our views on the matter, and a final request for Omega to take action. I followed the guidelines on the petition website in writing this.

In August of 2006, Omega USA and its parent company, The Swatch Group Ltd., terminated the authorized retailer status of Gelber & Mundy Jewelry Company in New York City. Prior to their recent dismissal, Gelber & Mundy had been an authorized Omega retailer for 25 years. They have sold thousands of Omega watches to customers who visited New York City from all over the world.

Although Omega initially refused to explain their decision to revoke the authorized retailer status of Gelber & Mundy, they finally revealed that their decision was based on their desire improve the image of the Omega brand. Omega explained that they are starting to produce watches with more complex and sophisticated movements, and that they want their watches to be available only in stores that carry brands with similarly upscale movements. Since Gelber & Mundy do not carry other brands that Omega considers “exclusive”, Omega felt that Gelber & Mundy could no longer adequately represent the brand.

We believe that Omega’s dismissal of Gelber & Mundy is inexcusable. As an authorized retailer of Omega watches, Gelber & Mundy provided a superior level of customer service and knowledge of the brand that is not found in most retailers. For 25 years they have loyally served both the Omega brand and their customers, and it is an outrage to see them dismissed simply because they do not stock other brands that Omega perceives as being “exclusive”. Gelber & Mundy’s failure to stock these other, so-called “exclusive” brands is irrelevant to their ability to represent the Omega brand, which they have done in an exceptional fashion for the past 25 years. We believe that Omega should focus on promoting their brand through knowledgeable authorized retailers, and Gelber & Mundy most certainly excel in this regard. Without exceptional retailers like Gelber & Mundy, it is we, the consumers, who will ultimately suffer.

In signing this petition, we are urging Omega USA and The Swatch Group Ltd. to reinstate the authorized retailer status of Gelber & Mundy Jewelry Company in New York City.
