The Seamaster Professional series uses caliber 1120 which winds bi-directionally. This means that you want to buy a winder that is capable of such winding. The winder should rotate the watch clockwise for a few minutes, rest for a few minutes, and then rotate the watch counterclockwise for a few minutes.

It really depends how much you want to spend. Steinhausen winders are very inexpensive, wind bi-directionally, and can be bought on ebay (just do a search for them). I have had good luck with them, though I have heard reports from others that they can break after a year or so. Orbitas are probably considered the best, though they are considerably more expensive.

One suggestion I'd make is that, if your boyfriend has only one automatic watch, buy just a single winder for now. It will be cheaper, and if it breaks you haven't paid for the more expensive dual winder. If he acquires another watch later, you can buy another winder. I've been able to get Steinhausen single watch winders on ebay for less than $40 shipped, and they are very quiet compared to some others I have owned. This is just a suggestion for a first winder.

Good luck,
John
