Making both sides symmetrical or not doesn't really matter. It would look nicer and cleaner(for those that pay attention to bracelets).

(OK, now I'm going to get really picky!) Fewer links also makes the bracelet less prone to hair snags too.

(Now, I'm going to get really, REALLY pickier!) It could strengthen the bracelet (those half links really do look so thin).....

Well, as you can see, there's basically no real advantage. If you look at the watch and it bothers you, be my guest and go right ahead! If you're doing the resizing yourself, be cautioned because I've heard that the SMP bracelet is a ***** to size without the proper tools.
