Good question
In Response To: Re: Japan Only Speedy [pic] ()

A fantastic looking Speedy. Congrats. Why do they make limited market models for a stunning watch like this?

THAT is a good question jho.

Some info for some of the non-speedmaster fans/experts here. Various watches looking like this have surfaced in various publications ( eg Time Capsule / Omega Masters & some of the smaller japanese books ) over the years. By "like this" I mean, a standard speedmaster Pro case with a "racing" dial ( red/orange chequered markers around the edge ) NOT marked as a MK II dial.

Omega have always denied that they ever made a model that looked like that, UNTIL 2004 when they issued 2004 pieces ONLY for sale in Japan.

Omega have , for quite a few years now, released some limited editions in Japan only. These seem to sell very well & since the internet is now such an easy medium to use, these watches can & do get traded world wide.

My "concern" is that if a model is a HUGE success Omega will issue another series. Eg like they did with the Moonphase Speedmaster.

Or the "Domino" speedmaster ( to use Chucks name & his picture here )

Which was initially issued in 300 pieces,in Japan only, but went on to become this ....

Issued in 3500 pieces world wide.

Maybe Omega "test the water" using a small dedicated market & if a watch is a success, or generates a lot of interest in forums , like this, they then look more seriously at a more general model.

In the past there have been Omega models made specifically for German, Italian, South African, American & Japanese markets ( at least ).
