I suspect the red, black, and white color combination has something to do with it being labeled a "Scumacher Collection" watch.

That's correct. The increased case size and the upgrade to the COSC certified 1164 movement led to a substantial price increase for this model. For what it's worth, caliber 1164 has an excellent track record. It's used in the Bond Seamaster chronograph model 2225.80.00, and that watch is built like a tank.
