The watch has a mechanical alarm function. It is an automatic movemnt which as well as winding itself also winds the alarm.
For those of you who know Seiko Bell-Matic range of watches, it is very similar. I'd have to admit the Memomatic alarm is not nearly as "strong" as the Seiko alarm. I'm not sure it would wake me from a sleep, but it's good enough to remind me of a time/appointment during the day.
If you look at the dial, you can see that the alarm can be set ( via the 2 central discs ) fairly accurately. There is an "hour" disc & a "minute" disc.
The Upper "pusher" is used to switch the alarm on/off & to "tell" the normal crown which hands need to ve set ( ie time hands or Alarm discs )
The "normal" crown @ 04:00 can be used to set the hands/ alarm discs or even manually wind the movement. ( I suppose, you could change the date if you rotated the hands enough .... ut you don't need to :-) )
Because , the central "push button" @ 03:00 is quickset for the date. Push it to advance the date.
Chuck hosts an Owners manual ( belonging to Chris Moy ) for the watch, which explains the above MUCH better than I have...
