Hi Peter,
I've been to many many Rock concerts in my life. I've always worn a watch. I don't know how many hours I've spent in the "Viccy" hall in Stoke-on-Trent, right in front of the speaker stacks watching / listening to anything from the Police to Def Leppard ( Yes I saw them in Stoke ! ) to ZZ Top, Magnum, UFO, etc etc.
In the meantime I'm Old, Grey, "Stocky" & live a LONG way away from Stoke. ( But I still go to Concerts ! )
I don't believe you can magnetize your watch in this way.
I've also carried enough Marshall Amps for my friends. ( I "roadied" for a few local groups in my late teens ) I've never had a problem.
In the meantime I spend at least 8 hrs a day infront of a LapTop. These also have loud speakers in them. I've never magnetised a watch.
So, how do you check if the watch is magnetised ?
EASY !
Simply put a compass next to the watch. The needle will normally show magnetic North, If the needle swings towards the watch as you move the compass in, the Watch is magnetised.
Fixing it is just as easy ( for someone with the right equipment ). The watch doesn't have to be opened. It is simply placed inside a de-mangnetising machine for a certain amount of time. & that's it !
My own guess would be that the watch is due for a service. If you find that it is not magnetised, I'd consider sending it in for a service ( or taking it to a local watchmaker that you trust ).
Let us know how you get on.
I hope this helps.
Steve
