Hi, Ive had the quartz black SMP (mid size) for just over 3yrs now. Like you, money wasnt so much a factor when chosing a quartz as my freakiness about exact time. I would love an automatic as well and in time I will get one (almost certainly an Omega, although Ive seen a couple of very nice Oris watches I like). One of each would be the best of both worlds (quartz & auto), but while I could only afford one OR the other it had to be quartz. I wanted a watch which told the time rather than one I had to keep refering to other timekeeping means to check its accuracy as i wear it 24/7 7days a week. Another year or so and I should have both though, a quartz beater and an automatic for best!
Anyway, mine doesnt hit all the markers either with the second hand. I did find this mildly annoying at first, but not for long. A bit like when it picked up its first scratches, I was gutted. Now they are part of its charm :-)
