I'd disagree ...
I'm afraid I can't agree with the comparison. Omega DID make their own movements. As far as I know NIKE have never made their own shoes.
As the author says Hayek came in , re-organised & basically saved Omega. One of his decisions was to "out source" the movements. Obviously at the time this was the correct decision. Omeg ais still here & as strong as ever.
Now there seem to be lots of watch "experts" out there that seem to think that this decision is wrong .....
I don't. So Omega buys it's movements in, from other firms. Who do these firms belong to ? the Swatch Group. Who does Omega belong to ? the Swatch Group.
So, maybe I'm just being synical here, but what if they just renamed one / some / all of the "movement divisions" of the swatch group to be Omega ... would everything be OK ? Would anything change ? I doubt it. Maybe the swatch group would loose a few tax advantages, maybe the swatch group would have to lay off a few people ... who knows.
I don't have a problem with Omega buying its movements from a "sister" firm. For me it's about as close as "in house" as you can get.
That's my take on it.
