Royal Mail Insurance

Hello Henry,

The Royal Mail website suggests taking out your own private insurance to cover items over £500 in transit. This is probably good advice and shouldn't cost much if you have a good broker.

The value of my watch is under £500 so I have sent it "Royal Mail International Signed For" plus insurance.

I prefer "Signed For" as someone does sign for it. With "Airsure" the postman logs it as delivered on his computer without getting a signature.

I enclosed the CN23 in a clear self adhesive pocket and covered it up with a sheet of white paper leaving just the heading showing and writing on the paper "Customs Document enclosed in this envelope". This way the contents and value are not on display.

For a really valuable watch I would probably insure it myself - as above - or use FedEx (or similar) - dearer, but worth it for the peace of mind.

Lastly, I was also advised that if you send it to Swatch UK they will send it on to Bienne on your behalf but I am not sure about payment or insurance for this.

Hope this helps, Jack
