: Hi, I am currently trying to negotiate a very good deal on an Omega
: watch, I was just wondering how much commission an AD
: salesperson gets in %. This way I can walk in and know their
: industry and convince them to give it to the price I want. Also
: is there a 'blackbook" like car dealers where there is a
: "minimum" selling price. Hope you can help and provide
: more insight as to the inner workings of AD swiss watch
: salesperson industry.
In most retail environments (regardless of product type), a salesperson's commission percentage is usually based on the dealer's gross margin of said product. IE-the lower the gross margin (profit), the lower the commission percentage, with the converse true, too. A floor salesperson may have some flexibility to negotiate (usually 15% off in my experience, with Swiss watch brands) but any larger discount usually involves the store manager. Their commission percentage, however, is too small to make much of a difference in price nor would many salespeople sacrifice it just to make the sale. Who would want to get paid zero for making a sale? Therefore, the discount you are seeking is off the selling price of the watch, not the salesperson's commsiion (which is a very small fraction of the selling price - maybe 8-10%??) A good customer who has previously bought items from the same shop in the past, is more likely to negotiate a "special price" as opposed to a new customer making his/her first purchase. Exceptions would include a dealer's extra incentive to sell slow moving stock or discontinued items. Such items can command higher discounts. . . . Just my 2 cents worth.
