Hi all
As previously covered, I’m a long time Heuer collector refocusing my timepieces, so making available for purchase my rare and superb Heuer Carrera 18K solid gold 1158CHN, first edition with black date white numerals, possibly the most sought after Heuer grail watch.
The 1158 CHN occupies a prominent position within the history of vintage Heuer chronographs, being 18K solid gold and CHN standing for Champagne Noir, with the champagne gold case and dial paired with black sub registers, and has become significant both technically and culturally. Introduced in 1969 and remaining in production through the late 1970s and believed to be fewer than 200 made, the 1158 series represented a significant step in Heuer’s evolution, combining the functionality of an automatic chronograph with the refinement of an 18k gold case.
This model is most closely associated with Jack Heuer, who considered it his personal favorite within the Carrera line. It became emblematic of the brand’s high-profile engagement with motorsport in the 1970s, as part of Heuer’s partnership with F1 Scuderia Ferrari whereby Heuer supplied timekeeping equipment to the Ferrari team, and in return, the Heuer logo appeared prominently on the race cars and team gear, and these sold gold Carreras rather than being sold to the public were personally presented by Jack Heuer to Scuderia Ferrari F1 team drivers, including Niki Lauda, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzonia, Ronnie Peterson, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mike Hailwood, Arturo Merzario, Jo Siffert and more
Well matched to a period looking leather strap and also including a subsequently aacquired solid gold Heuer logo buckle rather than the original gold plated version, the case is 38MM diameter and 13mm in height, with the Buren 12 movement.
The watch was recently fully serviced and runs beautiful, with smooth winding and crisp pushers and hands reset perfectly. The case, dial, hands, bezel and plexi are all in excellent condition. The case in particular has sharp edges with the original looking brushed finish, in contrast to certain over polished examples.
Such a great period and rare watch which is not worn, and will be great to see it go to someone that will wear and cherish both the watch and the Heuer/Ferrari backstory.
Please contact me via email for images.
Not looking for any trade ins and prefer to discuss pricing offline via email
The watch is currently in London, UK and can also be available in the USA or shipped.
Please, this is a rare and special piece – if you know you know – so no time wasters nor tyre kickers would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the platform Jeff.
