Re: Chronometer vs. Quartz Questions

i have just gone thru the same decision making process myself. it was very tough. i bought the SMP quartz totally because it was $575.00 less than the automatic. at the time the appearance of the watch was really practically no different from each other (except that the automatics date seems to be closer to the edge of the dial and there is less of a maker for the number 3, i still don't know why there is this differece). then i did my research. i called 5 watchmakers and the first one said to buy an automatic. but the other 4 told me the quartz watch is the better watch to have. i was shocked. they told me they never see a quartz except to have a battery replaced. on the other hand automatics need complete overhauls. and are of course less accurate. also i am not wearing the watch everyday. so the automatic would have to be set at least once a week... after a year that's alot more wear and tear. also the price for a battery is going to be less. eventually the way i saw it was like this... for the extra $575 (right of the bat) i could buy $10. batteries for the rest of my lifetime. that's not even to mention taking the automatic in every 5 years and paying at least $100. well this is all my opinion, but believe me it wasn't easy at all. like you i read all the internet stuff which is mostly telling you to buy an automatic. i hope i have no regrets. i have only had the quartz for 3 weeks so i can't go on about how well it's been. good luck - love to know which way you go.
