: Over the years, I've owned five different

: I've also owned five different Rolexes. I guess

I appreciate your honesty and willingness to go against the Speedmaster grain. I will tell you that my primary interest in the Speedmaster Pro is due to my romantic notion of its history and the time that produced it. It's a symbol of when America had a dream of what could be. It was a time when engineers (of which I am one) and scientests were heros. A time when kids wanted to be astronauts, policemen, or firemen, not rap stars and atheletes.
To be perfectly honest, I've been getting along just fine using my cell phone to tell the time since my Seiko Perpetual Calendar's battery ran out a few months ago. I am more interested in the craftsmanship and pride of ownership of a Speedmaster Pro than of actually being able to tell the time. :)
Like I said in my original post, I hope one day to have an SMP for rugged work and a Speedmaster Pro for office work.
Thanks, everyone, for your help.
