: So, I took it back to the jeweler (I just
: bought the watch 5 days ago) and they said
: that since I have worn the watch (there are
: some scratches on the band), they are going
: to have to send the watch to Omega to have
: it fixed, instead of giving me a new watch.
: Is this standard?
I'm sure the dealer doesn't WANT to take it back, but since the watch is five days old they certainly could. It wasn't like you came back two months later and said, "I just noticed this..." They can easily send it back to Omega as defective goods and get full credit for it.
Many dealers don't even date their warranty cards so that you can bring the watch back for a replacement if something is wrong with it. What I find bothersome about this is the fact that YOU will have to be without a watch that's only five days old while Omega services it. A truly top-notch, customer-oriented dealer would swap out the watch and send it back to Omega for them to deal with. After all, Omega is going to fix the watch either way, but doing it the way your dealer is doing it, YOU are the one who has to wait for it to be fixed and be without a watch you shelled out a lot of money for.
If I were in your shoes I'd demand a replacement on a 5 day old watch. Of course, I wouldn't have to do this with my dealer, but not all dealers are created equal.
