Re: Follow-up: New information on NASCAR Tissot...

Chuck:

My understanding of the tach dial is different than yours, in that I have always seen it as a way of measuring speed for traveling one statute mile, which is why the 60 MPH is always at 12 o'clock, because it takes exactly one minute to travel one mile. If you're going along the Bonneville salt flats at about 500 MPH, that will only take about 12 seconds, which is about where the 500 marker is.

From a conversion standpoint, a kilometer is .62 of a mile.

Now then, 60 MPH is 96 kilometers an hour, so if there is ANY number at the 12 o'clock position other than 60 it should be 96. It would appear, however, that some complete idiot MULTIPLIED the usual 60 MPH by .62 instead of DIVIDING by .62, and yes, 60 x .62 = 37, so that's where the number 37 came from. It of course makes no sense, because it will NOT take 60 seconds to travel 37 MPH or KPH either. It would appear that someone's half-wit illegitimate offspring in the home office has been given a job at management level, which isn't surprising considering all the other things that have been coming out of Omega.
