Hi Steve,
Hi Graham
I managed to get a hit on one ofthe emails I sent out to potential Omega repairers. I ended up looking at the Cousins dite you mentioned and ordered a Mineral glass/crystal with a part code of TN5222 There was only 1 in stock so I ordered it. It cost just less than £17 without VAT and I elected to pay just over £6.oo for special delivery.
I'll let you know if it's the correct one when it arrives.
I'm glad I could help. I too am amazed at some of the prices ( I don't find £17 + VAT + postage expensive ). If you look at what a speedmaster bezel, crystal or 1171/633 bracelt costs at Cousins, then see what some people pay on eBay, you can see how some people try to finance their hobbies :-)
It was very interesting, the information about the different watches using the same parts, which is common sense when you think about it.
I'm sure Omega try to re-use parts across models as much as they can, but it's a balancing act. If they re-use too many external parts the watches will start to look too similar.
I don't know why Omega does not make it plain what parts fit which models of watch and make a catalogue available?
I'm pretty sure it's Omega policy to keep his info as secret as possible, this forcing joe Public to go to his AD & not to any independant watchmaker. I'm also pretty sure that there are plenty of independant watchmakers who have access to this Info though ;-)
I'm pretty sure they have info somewhere ( nowadays in electrical form ). As I said , in my first post, I have a couple of "Dressing Components Catalogues" from the early 80's. I picked them up of eBay. the trouble is they only cover watches about 10 years old & obviously stops at the publishing date. I guess an Omega AD has this kind of Info on a CD ( or DVD ) nowadays. I'd like to get my hands on one of them ! but I've never seen anything like that.
Is there any sites that I can look at in future where I can get more information on parts by any chance, I'm sure me and a lot of other people would find it very interesting.
I sourced some f300 resonators for my local watchmaker from them. My watchmaker was so impressed, he gave me a list of Rolex parts that he'd been looking for for a while. I got them too :-) Needless to say, I now have a lot of "brownie points" at my watchmakers :-)
Another great source of Movement Info is the Watchco website. Hit the "movement spare parts" link on the left & spend a few hours looking through those pages. Coming back to the "interchangability" of parts, if you look at the movement parts for the 1011 movement you'll see 9 parts listed. the rest are 1010 parts.
Cousins also list a lot of Omega movement Info => Listed here I've seen someone selling Omega movement Info in PDF form on eBay .... I wonder where they got the PDF's from ;-)
I'm sure there are other sources out there, maybe someone else has good sources ?
Finally, don't underestimate what information is in the forums members heads, books, catalogues etc etc. Posting on the forums is a great way of getting info.
I'd recommend www.JulesBorel.com. Sign up & get a logon there. Then you can search for hours through their parts pages (listed by case Ref# or Movement number) they do MUCH more than Omega parts. There is an amazing amount of information on that site & they have a stock level that is just unbelievable.
Thanks again Steve, I really appreciate your help.
All the best
Graham
How about you post a picture of your watch before & after the new crystal change ?
All the Best
Steve
