Re: ROLEX vs OMEGA
In Response To: Re: ROLEX vs OMEGA ()

: I agree, a Rolex is probably by far the better investment; I didn't
: quite equate investment with "value for money", but I
: suppose it's a fair point. Similarly brand recognition.

: Shame you have nothing more interesting, though; that's all rather
: obvious :)

Using "things" to project a self image. The way to project yourself is with your own force of personality. A watch or a car is not and cannot define a personality. I could give a homeless guy my Rolex and he'd be a homeless guy with a Rolex. I could plop him down in a Bentley or RR, he's still a dirty, unshaven homeless guy with an alcohol and or drug problem. As far as value for a modern watch, forget it. All are over priced, some more than others. Trading off their brand image and perceived persona. All the time I've spent in Europe, I only saw one German wearing a Rolex, he was waiting on my table. An Italian in Trieste was supervising the public car park. Also a Rolex. Hardly a groundswell. Believe what you will but don't expect the rest of the world to fall down at your feet because of a watch or car.
